This study aims to determine the needs of teachers in identifying student misconceptions by developing a web-based four tier diagnostic test. Misconception is one of the serious problems that needs to be addressed as soon as possible because it can affect students' next concepts. This type of research was descriptive with a qualitative approach. This research began with literature study activities, distributing questionnaires and interview activities to several physics’ teachers at school. The data analysis technique used consists of three streams of activities, namely: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of this study indicate that the development of a web-based four tier diagnostic test was really needed by physics teachers to identify the occurrence of student misconceptions, especially in basic materials such as temperature and heat.
